I had same errors - Access violations. I'm Running Windows 7 64bit. Both for GTA III and GTA Vice City. Both working now. Here's EXACTLY and COMPLETELY what I did. (Steps 1-3 Verify game Files) Step 1.
In steam, right-click on game to fix (eg. GTA Vice City) & select 'Properties'. In the Game Properties window that loads, click on the 'Local Files' tab. In the 'Local Files' section, click 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache.' & let it finish Step 4. Click 'Browse Local Files.' (still on local files tab of game properties window) - Windows explorer will open location (make a note of this folder location for use later on).
(Steps 5-9 Set compatibility settings for game's executable file) Step 5. Right-click on the game's executable (for vice city it is 'gta-vc.exe') & click 'properties' Step 6. In the file properties window, click on the Compatibility Tab. Check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and in the drop-down select box Choose 'Windows XP (Service Pack 3)' Step 7b.
Check the setting 'Run in 640x480 screen resolution' Step 7c. Check the setting 'Disable visual Themes' Step 7d. Check the setting 'Disable desktop composition' Step 8. Check the Privilege Level 'Run This program as an administrator'. Click 'Apply' & then click 'OK' (initially I also checked 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings' but I don't think that's necessary) I also repeated steps 5-9 on the other executable in that directory - 'testapp.exe' (Steps 10-15 Set Data Execution Prevention in Windows settings) Step 10. Open Windows System Properties (either from control panel, or from my computer properties or by holding Keyboard's 'Windows key' & pressing 'Pause/Break key' (above 'Page Up' key) Step 11. Click on 'Advanced System Settings', then in the 'Performance' section at the top click on 'Settings' Step 12.

In 'Performance Options' click on the 'Data Execution Prevention' tab. In the lower half of this screen, click on the 'Add' button, and you need to browse to the Location noted earlier in step 4, and add the executable files in question (both 'gta-vc.exe' and 'testapp.exe') (I repeated these steps for both files for each game - 4 files in total) Step 14.
Now Turn on DEP for those files by clicking on the option above the box listing the files you added. Then Click 'Apply' Then Click 'OK' You may need to reboot Windows for these changes to take affect. I noticed that I had to enter them a couple of times & reboot a couple of times before the changes were saved. (Steps 16-17 change in-game Video settings) Now The games should load properly. But it will be in a 640x480 screen. You should now get to the games' options screen and Select Video/Graphics options. Turn Off the 'Frame Limiter' & set the Resolution to be whatever is suitable for your display (for me 1920x1080 worked fine) - remember to press your 'Enter' key (I forgot a few times myself).
Start a New Game. I quit the game & went back to the file executable options where I set the Compatibility mode (steps 5-9) and I unchecked 2 of the 'Settings' I had checked earlier. I unchecked 'Run in 640x480' and I unchecked 'Disable display scaling on high DPI settings' leaving the other two settings ('disable visual themes' and 'disable desktop composition') still checked. Solved.
Hello, when I start GTA SA new game, it crashes on Big Smoke mission. First time when I go to red marker to start the mission, it crash. Then I found a 'fix' for this crash, but when the cutscene end, it don't crash. When following Ryder to Grove Street and go to the red marker when the cutscene starts, it crash. I have some mods and i think they effect that. I have SRT3 Mipmap Edition.
I think it's the problem in the game, because when I install it and go in SAMP, everything was loading slower and sometimes crash when I die. In Singleplayer, it's same, it can't hold the graphics and crashes but much, much more times.
So is this the problem and is there a fix for this? If you want to know all my mods I have ask me, because i am too lazy writing all them if they don't need.
